Retirement savings targets
This calculator focuses on readiness, not one account type. It compares projected savings with an inflation-adjusted income target and shows a gap or surplus estimate.
Worked example
If you are 35 with $75,000 saved and add $900 per month until 67, the calculator compounds those amounts and compares them with a retirement income target.
Methodology
The projection compounds current savings and monthly contributions. The target is an educational approximation based on desired income, inflation and retirement length. It does not include Social Security, pensions, taxes, health care shocks or guaranteed income.

Frequently asked questions
Is this different from the 401(k) calculator?
Yes. The 401(k) calculator models a workplace plan; this calculator models total retirement readiness.
Does this include Social Security?
No. It intentionally excludes Social Security unless a future version adds a supported input.
What does off-track mean?
It means the modeled balance is below the simplified target from your assumptions.
