Quarterly estimated tax planning
Estimated tax planning helps freelancers and other taxpayers reserve money during the year instead of waiting until filing season.
Worked example
If annual estimated federal tax is $16,000 and no withholding or prior payments are entered, a simple planning target is $4,000 per quarter or about $1,333 per month. Entering payments already made lowers the remaining target.
Methodology
The tool estimates self-employment tax plus federal income tax, subtracts withholding and prior estimated payments entered by the user, then divides the remaining amount into quarterly and monthly planning targets.
