Auto loan cost planning
Car affordability is more than the loan payment. Taxes, fees, insurance, fuel, maintenance and loan term all affect cash flow and total cost.
Worked example
A $32,000 vehicle with $4,000 down, $2,200 taxes and fees, 7.25% APR and a 60-month term finances $30,200. The scenario table shows how shorter and longer terms change payment and interest.
Methodology
Amount financed equals vehicle price plus taxes and fees minus down payment and trade-in credit. Monthly payment uses amortization. Ownership costs are shown separately from the lender payment.

Frequently asked questions
Why compare 48, 60, 72 and 84 months?
Longer terms lower monthly payment but usually increase total interest and time in debt.
Does this include insurance and fuel?
The calculator can show those as monthly ownership costs, but they are not part of the loan payment.
Is APR the same as interest rate?
APR can include some borrowing costs. Dealer and lender disclosures should be reviewed before signing.
