Auto Loan Affordability Calculator
Auto affordability planning
This calculator starts with monthly cash flow instead of vehicle price. It reserves room for existing debt and estimated car ownership costs, then estimates the loan amount and vehicle price that fit.
Worked example
If monthly gross income is $6,000 and the target car budget is 15% of income, the tool subtracts insurance and fuel before solving for a loan amount. Down payment and trade-in then increase the estimated affordable vehicle price.
Methodology
The model uses a user-selected percentage of gross income as a planning budget, subtracts existing debt pressure and ownership costs, then converts the remaining loan-payment budget into principal using the amortization formula.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a lender approval estimate?
No. It is a budgeting estimate, not a lender underwriting decision.
Why include insurance and fuel?
They affect monthly car affordability even though they are not part of the loan.
How is this different from the car loan calculator?
This starts with income and budget to estimate vehicle price; the car loan calculator starts with vehicle price to estimate payment.
